a few sizes too small

Have you ever loved someone who did not have the capacity to receive it? It is like the ocean in love with a thimble. We need someone worthy of our love. Worthy means enough room. How can the boundless love the bounded? It's not easy. It's like struggling to put on pants several sizes too small. This is God's continuing dilemma. He laughs, his big toe filling our body suit and says: Honey, you need to gain some room!

  1. Expanding our hearts to allow room for love remains a challenge especially as love's ways are not always readily apparent to me.

Sometimes God's love is in disguise, and expanding capacity to allow room for what scares me or angers me seems counter-intuitive. But at a deeper level I know it is all God's love unfolding, and the only way to embrace it Is by opening my heart wider to make room for not only the light to come in, but also room for its companion darkness. When I do this, God's love is humbling in its depth and presence.

  2. God's love is unconditional. It is offered freely and without reservation - always ready for that one person to expand to receive it. I am not sure if we hurt or disappoint God. Given the patience of and omnipotence of the Totality, it is doubtful. However, it is amazing that one can reject such love and yet, people do all the time. Not only do they reject it, they run away from it and prefer the darkness to the light.
